Technology Assisted Community Participation for Slum Upgrading

Developed for Nazdeek Inc

SHA was commissioned by Nazdeek Inc to assess upcoming technologies to support community participation in slum upgrading. A slum in Delhi was chosen as a case study.

  • SHA designed and implemented a technology stack for the survey, analysis and project documentation of informal and/or unplanned settlements – The stack consisted of a ground-up physical survey using an Augmented Reality (AR) application, coupled with a top-down survey of building/plot lines using orthographic drone surveys.
  • The resulting 3-dimensional model was integrated on a Building Information Modeling (BIM) platform that could quickly quantify current materials and spaces. This model is anonymized and is available to view publicly at https://skfb.ly/owsSy
  • The BIM approach allowed Nazdeek and SHA to rapidly approach the community with options for interventions at the settlement and building typology level, shortening time cycle for consultations massively
