SHA was commissioned by Arunoday Lifespaces Pvt. Ltd. (ALPL), Hyderabad to study and assess the potential outcomes of a housing development that would consist of a mix of age groups, that is, younger and senior (partly assisted) living. While ALPL was convinced of the business case for a mixed-segment housing, they wanted to find out through a mixed-methods research study the potential long-term outcomes of the lived experience in such a development.

  • SHA designed and developed a mixed-methods survey that consisted of a combination of quantitative and qualitative lines of inquiry. About 200 potential home-buyers were interviewed by a trained team on mutual perception of age-groups, preferences for neighbors and choice of formats for real-estate when in a close relationship with seniors.
  • The results of this survey were validated and enriched with in-depth qualitative interviews with property managers, senior residents and younger residents. Three sets of Focused Group Discussion (FGD) were also conducted with different age groups.

The findings have convinced the developer, ALPL to push ahead for a mixed-segment housing development, with the confidence that such an innovative project not only has business potential but also enhances the reputation of the developer.
