Workshops on solid waste management for urban areas

The programme was conducted for the National Institute for Urban Affairs (NIUA), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India.

I managed the delivery of workshops on solid waste management for Urban Local body (ULB) and state level officials from the states of Kerala and Karnataka. The programmes were designed as exposure visits to various best practice facilities across the two states, and focused on community-driven and technology-enabled processes for waste management.

  • Nearly 150 ULB and state level officials trained over 5 workshops on solid waste management practices and processes
  • Database of course reports and feedback, focusing on cross-locational learning outcomes

The cohorts were exposed to and familiarized with best practices across the two states. We developed a rich compendium of best practice sites and locations. We were able to deepen our practitioner network in this relatively lesser known sector of work. We were also able to increase focus on project management and procurement principles for waste management projects and schemes.
