Suggestions to the draft National Rental Housing Policy framework, 2019

I led in-depth research and analysis of the rental housing market in Indian cities, and developed options for policy interventions to enhance affordability and quality. The suggestions were presented to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), and included various models of rental housing such as built-to-rent, rent-to-own and rental vouchers, along with their implementation guidelines and governance architecture.

• We authored a comprehensive report with an outline of the key questions and challenges around rental housing, options for interventions, and implementation approaches.

Select recommendations from our report were considered for implementation. We were able to enhance the visibility of the rental housing market and potential interventions therein, in the policy discourse in urban India.
