Knowledge partnerships for sustainable housing and energy innovation in affordable housing

Knowledge partnership with the IFC and research collaboration with Cambridge University.

I led a policy advisory project for a consortium of leading private sector real-estate developers, brought together by the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The aim of the project was to consult with various stakeholders in the public sector and develop policy levers for encouraging private developers to convert their housing portfolios to green buildings. We also collaborated with Cambridge University on understanding the potential for innovation in energy provision in affordable housing.

  • Supported the Government of Karnataka in developing the Karnataka Green Buildings Policy, 2019
  • Deep engagement with the private real-estate sector and regulatory bodies on green buildings
  • Comparative report on global practices in sustainable housing and energy innovation

We were able to diversify IIHS’s housing work towards policies and practices in sustainability. We were able to engage deeply with the Governments of Karnataka, Maharashtra and the Central government in order to understand, assess and address policy approaches to achieving sustainability in the housing sector.
