Short courses and workshops under the Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY)

Programmes for the State Institute for Urban Development (SIUD), the Karnataka Housing Board, the Karnataka Slum Development Board and the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation Ltd., Government of Karnataka

I led and co-led programmes on affordable housing, in particular, on the convergence of RAY with Karnataka state schemes on urban housing, as well as the Karnataka Affordable Housing Policy, 2016. The programmes were aimed at ULB and state level officials responsible for the delivery of housing for the urban poor. I worked closely with stakeholders such as the implementing agencies, civil society and beneficiary representatives to develop content that was relevant to the state and its regions.

  • 370 ULB and state level officials trained over seven courses and workshops
  • Deep and critical content on urban housing in the state of Karnataka, with a focus on slums, planning, real-estate and government schemes
  • Database of course reports and workbooks on housing
  • Significant revenue stream

We were able to demonstrate enhancement of capacity of ULB officials to respond to the housing needs of the urban poor. The programmes networked IIHS into the Government of Karnataka and extended the institution’s reach to several smaller cities of the state. We were able to get together an extensive network of practitioner-pedagogues in the housing sector and enhance internal capacity to teach and engage with public sector housing practitioners.
