I led capacity building programmes for Urban Local Body (ULB) and state level officials under Central government schemes such as the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U). The programmes were focused on urban planning and infrastructure, basic services for public health (water supply, sanitation and solid waste management), and housing. Our content design and pedagogical approach was based on contextual and cross-sectoral learning outcomes, linking focus sectors to inclusiveness, efficiency and resilience.
- 2,200 ULB and state level officials across 11 states trained
- Extended IIHS’s reach to hundreds of cities in India
- The National Institute for Urban Affairs (NIUA) annual report (2019-20) states that IIHS trained the highest number of municipal officials in 2016-17 and 2017-18, across all ICBP Training Entities
- Extensive and comprehensive content on planning, housing, basic services and Central government schemes
- Database of training needs and course reports
- Generated sustainable revenue streams
The programme was able to prove impact at scale, as assessed by a third party. We created a massive network of practitioner-pedagogues, case studies and locations for exposure. The programme helped position IIHS as a thought leader in capacity building for public sector urban practitioners, while building significant institutional capacity on pedagogy for practitioners. The programme was delivered through an extensive multi-city network of service providers, managed by a hospitality-based back-end.
